A Historical Geology of Emergent Eeries is a research article by Cerfi, Gorman (124 words), and Meikili (commonly called CGM after its authors) that posed the now-discredited theory that eeries are caused by nesting behaviour of undiscovered giant birds. This was popularized by Gorman in the media as he pivoted into politics. A Historical Geology is most read for its lengthy introduction comparing moss recovery after eeries to historical geologic phenomena like iceberg floes, reforestation, and desertification, all without evidence—the authors did no field work. Eleven papers (195 words) later rebutted CGM, with Meikili contributing after she renounced her part in CGM.
